Bavarian Motor Works – BMW (yes the car maker) made them.
BF Goodrich (who makes tires now) made US gas masks during that time.
A lot of companies made many items that you wouldn’t think of.
BMW, the same people who make cars now, made gas masks in Germany during the war.

It probably stands for Bavarian Motor Works as in BMW cars. Heck, Ford Motor Company made ships for the Navy in World War One.
