We gave up on that chicken and egg thing – huh? I’m not sure how old you are but maybe it’s time you sit your parents down and give ‘them’ the birds and bees talk. Cute story "fluffer-", you get a thumbs up for that one. RScott
the grow inside the pumpkin, it is as simple as that
The seed becomes a pumpkin vine and then the flowers are pollenated by pollenating insects. The flower then produces a pumpkin that as it grows produces it’s own seeds. A pumpkin is born with all it’s seeds.

It’s like a pregnancy…….no, it is a pregnancy! The boy pollen meets the female flower parts but then must "grow down" to the ovules in the ovary of the flower (a little basic botany is in order here). If you were to tear apart a flower carefully, you’d see a little bowling pin shaped item, the bottom portion is the ovary. (OK the rest of you, not all ovaries are bowling ball shaped) When the boy pollen meets the ovules (eggs) they fuse thus starting fruit development. The ovary walls begin to thicken (among other parts) and the fruit develops. The ultimate product for the plant is the seed!!! The fruit part is just the surrounding of the seed…..in a sense we eat the womb…….yum! Anyway, "birth" occurs when the fruit splits open and the seeds are released in any number of ways.
