Was Batman the worst part of "The Dark Knight"?
It’s a wonderful movie, especially considering the usual quality of superhero movies, but did anyone else feel Batman himself was the worst part of "Knight"?
I love Christian Bale in general, but I’m not especially fond of his Batman. The growling voice especially grates on me. I understand the concept of Bruce Wayne changing his voice in the Batman costume, but the voice is too deep. It goes past menacing and lands in the neighborhood of unintended camp.
And, honestly, next to the energetic, ferocious Joker (played so well by Heath Ledger) or even the noble, doomed Harvey Dent, Batman just wasn’t very engaging as a character.
If movie titles were determined by the character everyone is watching, the movie would’ve been called "The Clown of Crime."
I use the word "especially" too much. lol
I didn’t mind The Joker hogging the spotlight. Heath gave a brilliant performance and deserved it.
But, damn, Batman was just shoved into the dirt. IMO. Dent and Gordon were more interesting!
"First off, the Joker wasn’t played by Heath Legder. If you look in the end credits, it’s Micheal Cain."

I loved his Batman in "Batman Begins," but "The Dark Knight" was a bit ridiculous, wasn’t it?
Of course, people -are- going to be focusing on Ledger, but he really met the hype, I believe. He was a brilliant Joker, and I don’t think Bale minded being cast in his shadow too much.
I agree. His voice bothered me too….really bad. I didn’t care for the movie. Toomuch hype and it didn’t live up to it.
His voice bugged me too. Funny thing is, if you watch the beginning of Warren Beaty’s Dick Tracy when he’s at the opera, he sounds just like Batman.
Other than the voice I liked Batman. You have to admit it wasnt as campy as George Cloony’s Batman.
Atleast they made this one dark, like he has the weight of Gotham on his shoulders.
no i reckon harvey dent was.
he really got me annoyed.
heath ledger as the joker was great though.
Rachel Dawes was the worst part of both movies. And I honestly don’t understand what is so horribly wrong with Bale’s bat-voice. It never bothered me once any of the times I watched it.
On the other side, I would say Harvey Dent was the absolute best part of movie. As much as I love Heath Ledger and his Joker, Harvey Dent was the key component to this movie.
I thought Christian Bale’s performance and Batman’s role were very good, but I couldn’t stand his clogged nose sounding voice! Why didn’t they fix that???
edit:
I don’t mind the deeper voice for Batman. It sounded fine in Batman Begins, and in every Batman movie and show (except the original show), Bruce always talked with a deeper voice as Batman. But I couldn’t stand that it sounded like he couldn’t breath through his nose. Did he forget to poke holes where his nose goes??
i agree. didnt u notice this tho? batman uses his weird ass voice in order to disguise it rite?? for his identity?
if u watch the movie, wenever he talks to jim gordon and even morgan freeman, (who both are aware of his identity) he still disguises it!!
joker and dent were great tho
First off, the Joker wasn’t played by Heath Legder. If you look in the end credits, it’s Micheal Cain. Heath Ledger was supposed to play the Joker, but he died.
As for Batman, I don’t think the director intended Dark Kight to be about Batman. Batman’s voice grates on my nerves too, but you have to give way to the fact that Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) has a slur. So, if Bruce Wayne had been talking in a deeper voice without much difference, I think a lot of people would notice it was him.
Yeah the part where that Gordon guy was talking with him for the first time in that room his voice sucked, like you said too deep but after an hour or so it got smoother, its just weird.
Yeah, but I also though the post-accident Harvey Dent parts were a bit unneeded. It seemed as though they had that and then they had to find a way to wrap his story up. Bale’s voice was a bit "too much", too. (It sounded just like it did in "Empire of the Sun". Ha!)
Wait! How could I forget. Gyllenhaal was the worst part of the film. She just wasn’t very good in the film; well, compared to Bale, Ledger, Eckhart, Cain, etc. She just wasn’t very engaging and honestly I couldn’t have cared less about her character.
Wait! Why is that funny? Michael Cain was The Joker!
Hmm….
YES!
Damn his voice was annoying!
i think you are doing a little too much nitpicking, and a little too much comparison of individual performances in context of the movie, which is why i think you are thinking this
first off, batman’s voice, imo, has nothing to do with his character…character for me focuses on the traits and qualities of the personality that appears onscreen, and batman clearly has both positive and negative traits, but putting voice against him is splitting hairs
also, i think you are comparing christian bale’s performance to heath’s a little too much…christian bale is a fantastic actor, and imo he was a fantastic batman, but there’s no question that from the first scene of the movie the focus of just about everyone was on the joker and on heath ledger…it is unfair to christian’s performance to say that everyone was watching the joker, because the character that the writers had developed, in addition to heath’s amazing portrayal, drew the audience’s attention to the joker
no offense, just my view of things
I agree i didn’t mind Joker being the spotlight at all!! Heath Ledger’s performance was its gonna be legendary!
I did not like Batman’s voice at all it was really weird… and creepy!
