My husband and I are both Halloween enthusiasts.
We love cheesy horror films, carving pumpkins, and dressing in classic costumes (mummy, vampire, frankenstein, freddy krueger, etc..)
I was just wondering if there were any other Halloween-loving parents out there, and if so,
How do you feel about families dressing up in a matching costume-theme?
At what age do you feel its appropriate for a child to pick their own costume?
[and when they pick their own costume, do you give them a few different options to choose from or just ask them "what do you want to be?" without any options or suggestions?]
And also, how do you feel about cutesy vs ‘scary’ costumes for families and for children?
[for example, for a little girl, cutesy princess/fairy/ballerina vs scary witch/black cat/dead bride]

It’s kinda like a zombie Frankensteinish thing. First, I’ll cut the sleeves off a long sleeve white thermal and sew it onto another’s sleeve to make the sleeves extra long. I’ll put unnecessary stitching all over it. Second, for my face, I’m going to get putty and make scars all over myself but add real stitches to it to make it look like I’ve been stitched together. Then, I’ll apply different shades of blue to my face and neck. For my mouth, I thought I’d use elastic string to sewing it shut using the putty to hold it in place with some glue or something; tell me what the something could be. I’m also thinking of using the same stitching method on my eyes. The elastic would allow me to open my mouth and eyes when I want to but make it look like I have to tear my mouth open to talk. Finally, for the pants, I’ll get some old pants, cut them and cross colors with stitching. Could I work this out? If not, could, I get other suggestions for scary costumes? I’m 14.

Every year for school I pick something horrifying to wear on halloween, but this year i’m having trouble coming up with things. Last year I was the girl from the ring. can you find any pictures of REALLY scary costumes? or at least describe something REALLY scary. because everywhere I look its all "freddy kreuger" and "mike meyers Halloween masks"
eh. clowns are not that terrifying.

I would prefer the costumes to be scary. I need really good ideas for scary costumes. I am trying to think of costumes from horror movies and such. The costumes can be homemade or bought from a store.

I’m desperate for a fun, slightly unique Halloween costume idea. I’d like to use as much of my natural appearance as possible (eg: ideally not need a wig). I’m only 5′ tall, curvy, with dark brown curly hair. I don’t like scary costumes. I think it would be fun to be a celebrity. Something/someone "retro" is even better. Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

Well, just to eliminate some possibilities, I’m a 13 year old girl, so no inappropriate stuff. Also, no "punny" costumes, no scary costumes(I’m trick-or-treating with my 5 year old cousin) and no "toddler cute" costumes. I’m not that girly, but not a tomboy.
I have a pair of fairy wings, that I could use, but that was an overused accessory last year. But I wouldn’t mind if it were cleverly used.
Also, I don’t want anything fancy and complicated, just enough to be classified as a Halloween costume.

some preschools here have banned scary costumes on halloween. kids can only wear the cute stuff (read: fairies, thomas the tank engine, barney, friendly pirates, etc).
oh and i’m not talking about my children’s schools.
what’s your take on this?

Personally I miss the scary costumes, but don’t hate the unique/funny/clever ones every now and then. I’m in college but want to dress up as something scary, but I realize a lot of people won’t get it and I’ll get weird looks at parties. So i decided I need to do something scary and kinda original/cool that people will notice and not think is weird. I’m having a really hard time on a scary costume appropriate for normal college parties. Can you guys help me out?
And yes, I’m a guy
