Movie Theme …Base the entire theme of your Christmas party on any famous Christmas movie, like ‘Nightmare before Christmas’ or ‘The Grinch’. See the movie for getting a complete idea about the decorations, costumes, music, etc.
You could do a Christmas Candy land theme…last year someone I knew made a life size Christmas themed in there house. Everyone who came in would dress up like elfs, santa, anything. it was rather cute.
Winter wonder land, base your party on snow

Have a party where everyone has to wear the ugliest christmas sweater they can find
Maybe holiday helpers. Then, you can give out little gifts like a gift card or money. Something of that matter.
Well personally I would not want to wear a costume to a Christmas party. Just like people are tired of hearing about Christmas before Halloween I would be tired of costumes by Christmas time!
The ugliest sweater idea is AWESOME! That would be a riot. Everyone has an ugly or dorky Christmas sweater they feel too guilty to throw out. Or people could make their own tacky creation. I would totally go with that idea.
mabey a baking contest, like cake for christmas
You could have a party where everyone brings something to donate. You can pick a single charity, like Toys For Tots, Salvation Army, etc… Then have everyone bring a toy, clothes, or food, and at the end of the party you can bring the items to the proper donation spot.
I don’t like the idea of having to wear a Christmas themed costume either because they are usually not the most flattering of costume choices out there. Why not have the theme be a party in an exotic location or era, like Christmas at the North Pole? Decorate the room like it’s the North Pole or Christmas in another decade like the roaring 20′s or the 70′s or the 80′s and make themed costumes optional? Like put it out there that you can wear a costume of that era and be a flapper or a gangster or a hippy in retro winter themed outfits (faux fur for the flappers, big puffy retro 70′s vests and ear muffs) if you want but also stress that it’s not mandatory to wear a costume at all because sometimes costumes in general can make people feel uncomfortable.
Oh and Candy Cane Punch is always a great beverage to serve.

CANDY CANE PUNCH
1 (20 oz.) jar strawberry jelly
8 qts. lemon lime soda
1/2 gal. peppermint candy ice cream
Mint Schnapps – Optional
Bring 1 quart soda to boil. add jelly and stir until dissolved. Cool before serving.
