I grew up in the 80s and I’m struggling a bit, the girls I can think of may not be so well known now, Janet Jackson did ok late 80s didn’t she ?
Rhythm Nation was 89 and that was quite a memorable look.
Then there’s Sade, scraped back hair and red lippy, easy to do .
Grace Jones is the obvious suggestion but I’m not sure pretty applies…
Salt n Peppa ? do you have a willing friend ? (two if you want Spinderella ).
I just can’t think of that many poppy, solo black girls back then… Princess but she didn’t have too much of an image.
Go as Grace Jones, if you’re pretty, you’ll still be pretty !
