I respect him more as I get older (and answer questions about him here. In fact, I’ve been rereading the Jack Kirby issues of Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olson, which have just been reprinted in two twenty dollar TPBs. They are well worth it. In them, Superman serves as sort of a Vergil — a guide to the Wild Area and Transilvane and other strange places where Jimmy and the Newsboy Legion have their adventures. And it’s definitely a traditional view of Superman.
At his best, Superman provides a positive image of the possibilities of technology. He is himself the product of thousands or hundreds of thousands of years of evolution using technology on Krypton. Even in the old days, the possibilities of misusing technology were clearly acknowledged (that was one thing Lex Luthor was good at) but Superman stood as a bailliwerk against cynicism.
I have several favorite superheroes. Dr. Strange, Sub Mariner, Green Lantern to name three. Superman is certainly on that list.
he is super.
the people who play him are talented. haha
He may be tough but I drank him under the table one night.
I think he looks stupid. Lols. Just what i think.
he is weird, but powerful.
storm for x-men, because the power is so cool
he’s one sexy son of a b*tch!!
well he is way 2 powerful so i dont like him but my fav hero is wolverine from x-men
Despite all the good he’s done for the comic industry, I still feel he’s overrated. He was created by two teenage boys emulating every childhood dream: incredibly strong, super fast, flight (this power was added later), laser vision, freeze breath. And what are his weaknesses? Irradiated fragments from his home planet, really? How dumb is that? It’s like if we were to go to Mars gain super powers, but we’re defeated by the mud on the bottom of our shoes from Earth, ridiculous, besides how many people can really get their hands on rocks from a destroyed planet millions of light years away? We have to go to a museum just to see moon rocks. And his other weakness magic. When was the last time he fought a magic user? Granted it’s smart of him to avoid them, but dumb that he has a weakness that’s never used.
Furthermore, without any powers Batman has fought and defeated every villain Superman has faced, including Darksied, not to mention Superman himself.
My favorite hero would have to be Iron Man, with Batman a close second. There’s just something about the human heroes that make something for themselves using their intelligence. Plus both are incredibly rich, and womanizers because of a public image they have to keep up and can’t risk getting too close to anyone.
