Don't you just hate it when people (mostly other parents) assume that your kids are walking all over you?
For example:
Today marks the 2 month anniversary that my 4 year old has been wearing a tiara (she got it for christmas)
A relative that saw her about a month ago said "omg she’s still wearing that thing" and I said "yeah" and she said "get a backbone sweety and show her some authority"
Another example: I’ve always allowed both of my daughters (6 year old doesn’t care to do it anymore) to wear their costumes throughout the entire year not just on Halloween so if one of them wakes up thinking "hmm today I’ll dress like JoJo the Clown" and we have no where important to go that day well she can be jojo the clown or spiderman or whatever they want to dress like. Again, people (mostly snotty relatives) will assume that my kids are controlling me when in reality they asked and I said yes.
Does this ever happen to any of you?
Does bug you as much as it bugs me?

People should be allowed to be people. I’ll bet the same relative eats the same thing for breakfast everyday, 2 months in a row, and occasionally wears lingerie at night. Same thing….different ages. It is so stupid to feel the need to control everything a child does. What an unhappy way to live for everyone.
you don’t have to prove yourself to anyone, but yourself
yeah. It happens a lot. Like, the other day, I had had my 17 month old with me all day shoping and doing errands. At the last store, there were some sparkly balls at the checkout counter. Now, he had been good all day after being moved into probably 6 different locations, and was tired, but he saw the balls andsaid "Wow, wow!" and pointed, so I handed him one and asked the cashier to ring one up.
Beind me some snotty stranger goes, "Oh, God. I’ll hate to see that one in two years!"
I just glared at her. nerve. its not like he was screaming for it.
Ignore everyone else! You are doing a great job with your daughters. There is nothing wrong with dressing up and you are only a kid once. My son has many costumes, scooby-doo, darth vader, and a vampire to name a few. He dresses up in them and goes outside to play with all the neighbourhood kids. He is 11 years old (lol). I could care less what anyone else thinks or says. I just tell them that they are jealous that they can’t do that.
What difference does it make if she wants to wear a tiara? Who is it hurting? Is it somehow stunting her growth or something?
My son likes to dress as a pirate. We play sailors on the high seas regularly (pianos make fantastic pirate ships, if you wanted to know) and have been known to walk into town dressed as pirates to go get some treasure (usually an ice cream cone). We get smiles and sneers, but I don’t really care. What I do care about is that my son grins up at me and squeezes my hand back when I squeeze his.
yes. it’s annoying
All you have to say is: No, I let her do that. If I said no and she still didnt take it off then she might be walking all over me.
Yes, it is very annoying. My almost 3 year old wakes up everyday and puts on tights, shorts (usually backwards) her cowgirl boots and a sunhat on. A shirt is optional. Unless we have somewhere to go, I just let her. All of them are her favorite pieces of clothing!
My sisters have both told me that I shouldn’t let her play dress up like that. I just roll my eyes, she doesn’t fight with me when I tell we need to get good clothes on to go somewhere, so why should it be a big deal?
How in the heck is that not having a backbone? Have they not heard of choosing your battles?
I do the same thing as well as a pj day here and there. I didn’t realize that i was being walked all over for giving the kids a little break in their routine. My son now a teen doesn’t seem to have suffered any ill effects from it.
