When you are in a place where you are looking to really wow them at Halloween or you have some other costume occasion coming up, you’ll find that one great costume that you can really use to wow them is that of the Joker. There are few villains in the comic universe that are iconic as Batman’s most lunatic nemesis, and no matter what version you are trying to do, there are a number of different thins to keep in mind. While you will find that there are a number of different versions of the costume out there, take some time to get familiar with the details.
When you are thinking about putting together a Joker costume, take some time and check out the source material. There is a big difference between the Joker that was played by Heath Ledger and the one that was played by Jack Nicholson. The case of Nicholson’s Joker, there was very much an aesthetic that was almost cartoonishly neat. The clothes stayed bright and unrumpled and everything was razor sharp and clean. Ledger’s Joker, on the other hand, had clothes that were still meticulously tailored, but where much more lived in.
Take a look around and check out the costume sites, but don’t forget to check out the thrift stores where you live as well. The iconic purple jacket is the piece that makes the costume really pop, and you may get lucky and find one. Otherwise, you will find that you can still go a long way with well-tailored clothes that have been made out of unexpected colors and fabrics. Nicholson’s Joker had a dark fedora, while Ledger’s simple had that may have been meticulously styled at one point. If you are trying for Ledger’s hair style in Batman, consider using leave in conditioner to get the right look.
When you are looking at putting together the Joker’s makeup, you’ll find that it is something that needs to be applied thickly. For Nicholson’s Joker, you will want to start off with a base of pure white foundation. Do not go light on it, and don’t worry about mixing it or blending it. Once you have the foundation on, some purple can go on for emphasizing the eyes and the eyebrows should be drawn in faintly, enough to give expression, but not much more. For Ledger’s Joker, the palate is a little more lively. The white makeup is still there, but after it has been applied, it should be smeared. Pay attention to wiping some away in the creases of the face. To get Ledger’s famous carved smile, work with building up a foundation of scarring with toilet paper, glue and water and then covering it with paint.
Finding a good Joker costume can be something that is a bit time consuming, but when you are out and ready to terrify your friends, you will know that it has all been worth it! Take some time and remember that the details are what tend to make the costume.
